Reading Theme 5
Good Neighbors
In this theme, students discover that people in communities rely on one another for goods and services as well as support. They take a close look at the interactions that make communities survive and thrive. It will give the students to see first hand many of the concepts we have been learning about in social studies. The students will read historical fiction, expository nonfiction, and informational fiction in this theme. Some of the focus skills will be fact/opinion, narrative elements, main idea/details, compare/contract, and elements of nonfiction. As we progress through our last reading themes your child will become more of an independent reader. We will hold class discussions around the stories we read in which each student needs to use the text as evidence to support his/her opinion about what they are reading.
