What an AWESOME bunch of students!
The kids work hard each and every day. W have been working hard to build a community of learners and to realize each of us has something special to offer the class.

We have been talking a lot about accepting everyone and treating all of our classmates in a very caring way. This is a GREAT reminder each day as the kids enter our room as to what is expected!
Thanks for the help at home with the weekly spelling practice. The students work each day on "Guided Spelling" in class. Each day we practice between 12-15 words that follow various spelling rules. In addition, the students are learning more about compound words, abbreviations, and contractions each. The words are in your child's planner.

Book Trailers
We hope you have taken the time to check out your child's book trailer. The students selected a "Good Fit" book they were interested in reading. Then wrote a book review script telling about the book, making a personal connection to the book, and a recommendation as to why someone should read the book. Finally, the kids are writing a script to highlight important parts of the book and adding pictures from the story to enhance the story even more.

Kids With Character
The kids have been reading books in a small group about one of the Pillars of Character. Each group is working to create a poster that defines the character in their own words with examples of each of the traits. This week each group will write new words using a familiar tune that tells a message about character. Thank you for supporting our efforts last week on having the whole school wearing a color associated with one of the pillars too. Be sure to ask your child about their "Filled Hearts". This was a class favorite!
Pen Pal Friends
Your child will be involved in a pen pal exchange throughout the school year. We are excited to write to another third grade class in Iowa. Miss Shipman is a 3rd grade teacher who was a former student teacher in my class. We have kept in touch and thought it would be fun to have our students exchange letters. This is a great way for your child to apply their writing skills in a meaningful way.
Marvelous & Magnificent Student
Each week a student will be featured as our special student of the week. They will share 8 to 10 pictures to help us learn more about them. Each student will have a special page to complete at home that they will share with the class on their special day.
When it is your child's turn to be our special student I will send home a bag with all of the supplies. I hope you enjoy helping your child prepare for their special time too.
I have included a book that you can read together and then I would like your child to create a pictograph showing the color of each M & M that is in the tin can in the bag.
Please add the graph to the class book of graphs. I did put in a sample for you to look at. I do change the "data" each week, so each child should have a little different look to their graph.
Please have your child complete the "I notice..." part of the math learning too.
To end the week your child will get a "bag" of compliments from their classmates.
You are welcome to join your child for lunch on Friday to make their day even more special. They will also get to invite a classmates from our room to join them.
